The function of the liver in the detox process

The function of the liver in the detox process

One of the most important organs is the liver because one of its main functions is to detoxify the body.

Its other tasks are the regulation of blood sugar, production of bile, fat production and metabolism and production of proteins.

If your body has built up lots of toxins over time, your liver will be overburdened in the long run. Some of the symptoms of a sluggish liver are fatigue, skin problems, unability to losing fat, depression, irritability, PMS and menopause, bad headaches, unability to detoxify the blood, hypoglycemia, varicose veins and jaundice.

The main problem is that an overburdened liver has a negative effect on other vital organs and body cells as well because most of the stuff that is eaten or drunk passes through the liver.

Bad eating habits and stress damage the liver

So it's very ease to imagine that not only poor nutrition and bad eating habits damage the liver but also the excessive intake of alcohol and nicotine, maybe even drugs, hormones, pharmaceutical products, daily stress at work (and elsewhere), air and water pollution.

The sad consequence: The more unhealthy stuff you eat and drink the more work your liver has to do, and the more damaged it will get in the long run.

And a liver that is no longer able to work properly causes really serious health issues.

How to improve the health of the liver

Here are four advices to improve the health of the liver:

  • Drink a glass of freshly squeezed lemon water early in the morning to flush out the toxins accumulated in the bile overnight. By doing so, the gall bladder gets stimulated and bile gets into the small intestines. Have your breakfast about 30 minutes later.
  • Eat plenty of liver-friendly foods such as onions, garlic, pears, legumes, apples, Brussels sprouts, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, artichokes, beets, dandelion, kale, turmeric.
  • Enjoy dandelion root tea (supports the detox process) and/or milk thistle tea (regenerates liver tissue).
  • Remove stressors such as coffee, alcohol, smoking, environmental toxins and unneeded stress from your life.

The benefits of lemon water

One of the best ways to detox your liver is drinking a glass of fresh lemon water in the morning.

But lemon water not only helps detox your body: It boosts your immune systeme, relieves tooth pain and respiratory problems, throat infections, reduces fever and balances pH as well.

To stimulate digestion the first thing you should do in the morning is to drink apple vinegar (1 tsp in water).

That's how liver detox works.
